Bathroom Redo Progression

My bathroom, when I moved in... oh what a nightmare it was! So plain, and in sad need of "dressing up!" Here's the original bathroom, look how plain it is. HO HUM.....

Yep, I know what you're thinking, YUCK. that old, old wallpaper, and the old linoleum floor!

I was really interested in "faux finishes!" I thought about the outside of this bathtub a million times before I actually got up the courage to try to do something about it. I finally hit on a marble finish that could be painted on the outside of the tub, and it turned out really well. I called it "Tiger Marble". I also faux finished the vanity top!

Here's the first result in the bathroom. how many changes can you spot?

The wall behind the tub is done with joint compound, spread on a wall that was sealed first with a white latex sealer/primer. Then joint compound was spread over the wall and then over that, it was painted with a soft yellowish beige color, and over that a gold glaze. It is really beautiful!

After that, wallpaper was added on the left side of the room, and a length of deep pink taffeta was stapled at the top of the wall above the window, the top edge of the fabric is concealed by a wide brocade ribbon across the top. Then the fabric was tied back with a length of gold tinsel cord left over from Christmas so light would come in.

I created a big "throw" or "towel" out of some leopard velvet, soft and supple, that I found at Walmart for less than $9 a yard, and a pillow from some really nice upholstery leopard fabric, heavy and velvety, that I ordered for less than $10 a fabric website! The wild print on both of these really adds a great deal to the luxurious feel of the room.

See that mirror? That thing is perfect in this bathroom, and I got it for only $15 in a junk shop!!! I used some transparent glass paint to stain the two windows. The overall effect is just great!

Latest changes

2005... I've still been messing with this room. Now all the cabinets are painted antique white, there are new handles on them, still haven't done the hinges yet though. There's a mural in there over the right side of the tub. All the cabinets are done like this now.

The smaller picture is of the new sink and faucet and iridescent pebbles around the sink to cover up the fact that the lip of the new (porcelain) sink was not as wide as the old UGLY fiberglass sink. That's the mirror over the sink reflecting that same mural.
